Finding Offline Clients

So how does one go about finding clients?....

Truth is, they're easy and plentiful to find... You can start with the good old Yellow Pages. I prefer flipping through the old-fashioned yellow pages book itself -- not online -- and I'll tell you why in a second...

Let Your Fingers Do The Walking....

yellow pages online

You may be way too young to remember the old Yellow Pages TV commercial that said, "Let your fingers do the walking..."  but if you have one around, (the actual book, not the online website) it's a good idea to flip through it and check out those quarter-page adshalf-page, and full-page ads.

Why?

Because those cost big bucks! Those businesses are shelling out money and whether it's working for them or not, they TRUST it. It's real to them.

And the fact that they're willing to pay money for advertising -- is the kind of prospect you want.

The other reason I like using the big book yellow pages is because it'll be easier on your eyeballs. If you stare at a screen like I do all day, it gives your eyes a much needed break.

Of course, you have all the online sites like superpages.com, yellowpages.com, like below.

For a quick test run, type in, say, "dentists" or "veterinarian" and your zip code... and bang -- you'll get all the dentists and vets in and around your city of choice. (You may have to scroll down past all the sponsored ads.)

Some will have websites, and some won't. From there, you can gather as much info as you need.

Do they have email capture? Are they on Local Google Map? Do they have a sorry looking website?

The criteria you look for will depend on the services you intend to offer.

Yellowbook.com and others display it all out for you by industry (below)... all you have to do is go into "research mode."

And I use another service... www.Yelp.com (below)

Yelp.com is kinda like a hybrid; part customer-review site, part Facebook.

Heck, I even found leads on the back of supermarket receipts. I call the advertising company and act like I own a salon or barber shop and ask how much their service is. Try it.

Then, once you know what the businesses are paying, you can always show them for the same amount or less, they can get greater exposure by being placed in Google Maps, Adwords, or whatever services you may offer.

There are so many research tools available, it'll leave your head spinning.

The key is to find whatever source you're comfortable with, what works for YOU, and what helps you become successful.

Even Main Street Marketing Machine is jumping on the postcard bandwagon.
